Abstract

This study aims to compare the attitudes of basic education teachers in schools in Lima, regarding the role and activities related to their profession, over a period of thirteen years. Quantitative research was developed, under a descriptive and longitudinal correlational no experimental research design trend, with samples taken in 2001 and 2014. The results show that teachers have improved their attitudes towards their profession within these years and the variable that best explains these attitudes is the year in which the survey was taken. As for sociodemographic variables, being a woman has a significant correlation with the areas of vocation and interpersonal relationships. In the case of age, the older teachers have more positive attitudes regarding their vocation and the remunerations. These two areas positively correlate with the number of children and negatively with the people who are economically dependent on the teacher surveyed. On the professional profile, the teachers with more time of work in the State have more positive attitudes in the areas of vocation and remuneration. From this perspective, policies to improve the teaching work and strengthen teacher professionalism must be comprehensive, taking into account their personal and social aspects.
